Product Owner

Part of the Development Department and a key member of the Scrum team, the Product Owner is responsible for the product’s success. By creating quality documentation and information, prioritisation and validation of the work to be performed, the product owner leads on what will be developed.

Your role

  • Subject matter expertise for a specific product or domain or module

  • Manage and validate all incoming requests for work

  • Provide feedback to customers on the state of requests, closing the loop from request to delivery

  • Provision of fully versioned functional specifications

  • Develop good quality user stories and define acceptance criteria with a high level of analysis (dissect, translate, cross reference)

  • Reconciliation and traceability of missing details within requirements and/or specifications

  • Highlight and introduce process for change requests (requirements which fall out of spec)

  • As the owner of the backlog maintain and prioritise the backlog

  • Set sprint goals to ensure team motivation and direction

  • Introduce and highlight new product features in a manner clearly understandable to the development team

  • Attend sprint planning and demonstration meetings to give feedback on sprint achievement, as well as to scrum team

  • Plan releases and upgrades with development delivery and test

  • Follow progress of work and address issues during sprints

  • Monitor and report on the progress of product development, as well as against the plan for product release

  • Provide reports to update management and stakeholders on product development operations

  • Keep track of industry standards, and customer expectations on new or existing products

  • Analyse customer opinions and feedback to determine features or components that will add good value to a product

  • Constantly exchange ideas with product owners within the organization

  • Assess product value to identify areas that require improvements

  • Ensure implemented product features add value to end users and increase company returns.

  • Any other duty as reasonably requested by the Development Delivery Manager or any other senior manager in the business

Skills and Experience

  • At least 5 years of working within software development

  • Ability to motivate and encourage positive behaviors

  • Proven experience of spotting inefficiencies and working to implement more effective solutions

  • Experience of highlighting over complicated systems and processes and providing solutions with a ‘painless’ user interface

  • Experience of reporting on management data

  • The ability to learn and understand technical concepts and requirements quickly

  • Collaborative approach, must be able to build good working relationship

  • A methodical and logical approach to problem solving

  • Ability to communicate at all levels

  • Education and Training:

    • Training and certification as a professional scrum product owner or as a certified scrum product owner

  • Leadership Skill: Ability to direct and motivate the product development team / Scrum team.

  • Analytical Skill: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to determine most appropriate feature to add to a new or existing product
