Technology pioneer APD Communications has been named among the winners in prestigious awards recognising the finest businesses in Hull and East Yorkshire.
Hull-based APD claimed the Medium-sized Business of the Year award at the Hull Daily Mail Business Awards.
The judges were impressed by APD’s rapid revenue growth, which has seen turnover increase by 36% over the past two years, contribution to employment in Hull, long-term plans and company strategy.
The judges also praised APD’s development of innovative communications technologies for mission-critical control rooms which are rapidly gaining customers in the UK and abroad, including securing a 69% market share of the UK police sector, and orders worth more than £3m across Europe and the Middle East this year alone.
APD Commercial Director Rhiannon Beeson said: “We’re thrilled to win this award, especially as we are a company born and bred in Hull and proud to call the city our home.
“The award recognises our many innovations and achievements and the strong growth we have delivered over the past two years and that we’re confident we’ll continue to drive in the years ahead.
“Most of all it’s a tribute to the amazing people across the business and the passion they bring to their work developing and delivering technology that keeps the public safe and secure.”
The award is the latest in a series of accolades for APD.
Just two months ago APD’s world-first Cloud Control Room technology, which is pioneering the way forward for emergency services organisations, took the Best Digital Innovation award at the 2018 Digital Awards, Hull and East Yorkshire’s celebration of tech excellence and innovation.
Last year, APD claimed the Innovation and Technology award at the Hull Daily Mail Business Awards, in recognition of the company’s development of a range of communications software for emergency services organisations.
APD was also a winner in the 2017 Digital Awards, claiming the Best Hardware award for its Artemis fleet management and incident detection technology, which operates through XDR, an intelligent little black box stored within police cars and other emergency services vehicles.
In addition, APD has won national and international acclaim at the International Critical Communications Awards 2018 in Berlin and the Fire and Emergency Excellence Awards 2017 in London.
Founded by two academics from the University of Hull and based at the Newland Science Park, adjacent to the campus, APD has developed cutting-edge digital technology in the city for more than 30 years.
APD is transforming how the emergency services interact with and protect the public through the company’s development of innovative critical communications solutions that integrate telephony, radio and CCTV to enable rapid and effective response.
APD’s market-leading technology is used by more than two thirds of UK police forces as well as major transportation hubs and airports including Gatwick and Dubai international airports and the London Underground, all of which rely on the company’s solutions to stay safe, secure and connected.
