This month, we’re going behind the scenes with Paul Bryans, our Senior Service Delivery Engineer.
Senior Service Delivery Engineer
We’ve taken 5 minutes to speak to Paul about his role here at APD, which involves working in control rooms across the UK and around the world.
Tell me a little about your position; what do you do on a day-to-day basis?
Life as a Senior Service Delivery Engineer is really varied; it can consist of relocating a few workstations, right up to a complete control room build.
The largest project I have worked on was in Southampton – this consisted of building several servers, 127 workstations and enough cabling that would reach the moon and back five times!
Who are your customers, who do you work with in the control room?
I work with mostly operational staff, along with technical staff, which makes it crucial that I understand both fields. Our customers are always given demonstrations of our products, which means they’re usually really excited when I arrive! Typically, our customers are really helpful and supportive of changes – we all want the same goal, so we all work together to achieve it.
What do you like best about your job?
My colleagues! Being honest, this role is very demanding, often involving 60-hour weeks. The best thing about my job is my team. They are super-supportive, they always take a call regardless of what they are working on, and are happy to help wherever they can. We all help each other and we always have fun doing it.
What is your most memorable experience in your role?
Where do I start? There have been so many memorable moments. Working in Romania? Working in Dubai? ..even working in our offices in Hull?
To be honest, I think Romania would top the list. I spent several weeks there installing a Cortex System for the Romanian Government. All I'd have to say is, "A fost un proiect minunat de a lucra la, Un moment minunat din viața mea" which translates to: it was a great project to work on, a wonderful moment in my life.
