Lancashire Constabulary – Improving Visibility And Effectiveness
APD Communications was selected to provide a variety of applications for the Lancashire showcase; these included an Integrated Control Room (CORTEX), vehicle tracking (INCA) and a range of mobile data applications.
Jan Booth, ICT Project Leader at Lancashire said, "these were exciting times – we had to decide on which processes would work best using mobile data. We held workshops to establish requirements, then prioritised them into different phases. Users were adamant that they wanted a separate data device and would not compromise voice for data."
Mobile data is now part of every day life for Lancashire police officers. A range of police processes are now available using in-vehicle touchscreen Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs), including Police National Computer (PNC), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), Electoral Roll, Status Messaging, Command and Control, Telephone Directories and Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL). Using APD's technology, patrols use their MDTs to perform live queries against the central PNC database, including registered keeper's details and vehicle information.
