Health Service Executive – South Eastern Area

HSE had a requirement to provide an integrated operational system linking several geographical areas that each had their own communications infrastructure. The HSE had the additional problem of different radio frequencies in each of the areas (Wexford, Tipperary South, Carlow, Kilkenny and Waterford) which had led to difficulties in arranging joint operations in the past, together with problems in preparing and collating meaningful data for analysis.

It was decided to integrate each communications network in the region into a single Control Centre, so that joint operations could be mounted efficiently. It soon became clear that not only would the fleet benefit from a combined Control Centre, but also that efficiency would be significantly enhanced if coupled with vehicle location technology that enabled Control Room operators to quickly despatch ambulances in emergency situations.
