Cambridgeshire Constabulary – Control Room Communications at the heart of policing
Like many forces in the UK, Cambridgeshire Constabulary strives to use resources effectively and the issue of effective communication is high on its agenda.
Inspector James Trotter, Airwave User Manager, says, "Communications is all about getting the right information at the right time." Many of the issues facing control room operators taking calls from the public (in particular emergency 999 calls) are linked with the sheer volume of voice traffic they have to handle. And with a major incident, this automatically dominates the radio channel, impacting on normal policing activities.
With the introduction of Airwave, the digital voice and data TETRA system, there was the opportunity for Cambridgeshire to reassess the requirements of its Control Room communications system.
